Servo

A servo drive is a set of devices that make up a motion control system.
The servo drive includes:

  • PLC driver   - responsible for sending control signals,
  • Servo driver - is responsible for direct communication with the drive and its power supply,
  • Servo motor - an actuator, converts the received signals into appropriate traffic.

Servo drive is a system that is primarily used for position and speed control, but also for torque control. The PLC controller is the master controller here, which forces the appropriate control of the servo motor. The device mediating between the PLC ↔ servo motor information exchange is a servo controller, which, based on control signals, calculates the appropriate servo motor supply parameters (frequency, phase, polarity, current value) so that the motion profile corresponds to the programmed one. Communication with the PLC is done via ModBus, CANopen or the much faster EtherCAT. Due to the industrial working environment of servo drives, the driving representation is prone to many errors resulting from external factors. In order to limit them, the servo drive works in feedback.
